Walking in Köln like a Rude Local

This Cologne walking tour stands out among many other guided tours offered in this great city – like a middle finger! This is an English language walking tour that covers the historic part of Cologne. We guarantee it will be full of bad language, bad-taste jokes, and, yes, of course, irreverent history lessons!

The guide of course shares insight into the history of Cologne and gives you great tips on the best places to visit, eat, and drink. But more than that, expect to learn a lot about the city while you hear fun stories and have a great time. No snowflakes allowed!

The walking tour goes through major points of interest such as the Cologne Cathedral (Cologne Dom), the Belgian Quarter, the Hahnentor Gate, St. Kolumbia, and Cologne’s old town, talking about the rich history of medieval Cologne and its famous landmarks. Be prepared to hear an uncensored account of the city’s role in German history.

We also stop near the LGBTQ district and have a more flexible look at the outskirts of the cities, and introduce you to all the party locations in this musical city. Cologne’s rich musical history and its deep influence on modern electronic and techno music make the city a music lovers’ delight!

Among your guides are: Narella, Helgi and many others.

If you want a more regular (but also fun) sort of tour of the city, do check out our Funky Fun Walking Tour.

No Script, No Filters: The CYHIT Difference

Let’s be honest: most tours in Cologne are too polite. We think the true essence of Köln is found in its gritty history, its colorful streets, and its unfiltered local life.

1. A Different Perspective on History

We don’t just show you the Cologne Cathedral and tell you when it was built. We give you an uncensored account of the city’s role in German history. From medieval scandals to the dark side of the world wars, this alternative city tour cologne covers the bits they usually leave out of the school books.

2. Dive Into the Local Scene

Cologne is a musical city with a deep influence on electronic and techno culture. Our journey takes you through the Belgian Quarter, the Hahnentor Gate, and St. Kolumbia, but we also stop near the LGBTQ district. We immerse you in the scene that makes this city vibrant and unique.

3. More Than Just Sightseeing

This isn’t a typical sightseeing tour. It’s entertainment. Our local experts, like Narella and Helgi, use storytelling to make the history of Cologne stick. Whether you are with friends, colleagues, or traveling solo, you’ll discover the hidden gems and corners of the city that most travellers never find.

What You’ll Discover on the Rude Bastards Tour

Our alternative cologne tours ensure you see the important sights but from a completely different perspective:

  • Cologne Cathedral: The crown jewel of cologne tours
  • The Old Town: Navigate the narrow streets where the history is as thick as the local beer.
  • Belgian Quarter: See where the local artists and the vibrant life of the modern city meet.

FAQ – Alternative City Tour Cologne

Is this a “free walking tour”?

Yes! Just like our Funky Tour, the Rude Bastards Tour operates on our famous pay-what-you-want concept. There is no fixed ticket price or hidden booking fee. You join the walking tour, explore the city, and at the end, you decide what the experience was worth to you. It’s the fairest way to experience entertainment and quality in Germany.

How “rude” is the tour really?

We use bad language and tell jokes that might not be suitable for everyone. It’s about entertainment and a unique perspective. If you are easily offended, this is not the tour for you!

Do you offer street art tours or bike tours?

We focus on walking because balancing on a tiny bike seat while trying to explore hidden gems in narrow old town alleys can be pretty uncomfortable. Our alternative Cologne tours are designed for your feet, especially when we head into the Belgian Quarter to check out the local street art.

Can I join solo, or is this only for large groups of colleagues?

Absolutely! It’s a great way to meet new friends or bond with your current ones. But listen: for groups of 8 or more, the free tour model doesn’t apply. You’ll need to book a private tour. It’s better for you, better for us, and keeps the small group feeling alive for everyone else.

What if I can’t make it to the tour? Does it have free cancellation?

If you can’t join us, please let us know or cancel your booking. It only takes a second and it helps us plan our small group sizes so everyone has a great experience. Since this is an alternative city tour cologne visitors really look forward to, it’s just fair to give your spot to someone else if you can’t come. If you’re running late: we leave the meeting point on time, so try to be there a few minutes early!
