Berlin Festival of Lights 2026

October 9 to October 18, 2026

  • Dates: October 9 to October 18, 2026, ten evenings in a row
  • Time: Every evening after dark, roughly 7pm to 11pm, so arrive at sunset and stay late
  • Price: Most installations in the streets and squares are free to see, while special formats such as Festival of Lights in Concert need a separate ticket
  • Place: Landmarks, squares and buildings spread across central Berlin, with Berlin Cathedral and the Brandenburg Gate area among the best known
  • Bring: Warm layers since October nights get cold, comfortable shoes for a lot of walking, and a charged phone or camera

The 22nd Berlin Festival of Lights takes place from October 9 to 18, 2026 under the motto “Colours of Love.” For ten evenings the organisers invite visitors to rediscover Berlin and fall for the city all over again, with light art projected onto and built around some of its most famous buildings.

Since 2005 the festival has turned the German capital into one giant glowing stage every autumn. Monuments, squares and facades become the artwork, and the program is spread across the city rather than packed into one venue, so there is no single fixed schedule to follow. That is exactly why it is so good for wandering: you pick a direction, follow the glow and stumble into something new on every corner.

Plan your evening around a loose route through central Berlin, check the official festival map for the current list of illuminated spots, and expect crowds around the headline landmarks at peak hours. Go early in the evening for the best photos before the biggest crowds arrive, or later at night when the streets calm down.

Festival of Lights in Concert at Berlin Cathedral

October 13 to October 17, 2026

  • Dates: Tuesday, October 13 to Saturday, October 17, 2026
  • Time: Two one-hour concerts each night, at 7:30pm and 9:30pm (the finale on Saturday starts at 8pm and 10pm)
  • Price: Ticketed, so book through the official festival or visitBerlin pages and check availability early
  • Place: Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom), in the heart of the city
  • Bring: Your ticket on your phone, a warm jacket for the walk over, and curiosity, since the sets lean ambient rather than club

Festival of Lights in Concert is the festival’s big immersive add-on: 3D light art shows paired with ambient music sets inside and around Berlin Cathedral. The lineup this year features Alle Farben, Klangkarussell, Westbam, Anja Schneider, Chris Bekker and Ukãi Ndame, all playing a deeper, calmer side of their sound than you would hear in a club.

Each night has two separate one-hour concerts, and the artists change from night to night. Chris Bekker and Klangkarussell open the week on October 13, Westbam plays both sets on October 14, Klangkarussell and Anja Schneider follow on October 15, Alle Farben takes both sets on October 16, and the October 17 finale closes with Anja Schneider and then Chris Bekker with Ukãi Ndame.

Because tickets are separate from the free street installations, treat this as the one part of the festival worth booking ahead. Pair it with an early evening walk through the free light art, then head to the cathedral for your slot.

The Rude Bastards Tour of® Berlin is a free English-language walking tour that covers Berlin’s history, from the rise of Prussia to the fall of the Berlin Wall, with brutally honest storytelling and plenty of dark humour. We are the only ones running the Rude Bastards Tour of® format, so you will not find this style of guiding, or this name, anywhere else in Berlin.

Over the walk you pass Potsdamer Platz, the Reichstag, the Brandenburg Gate, the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, the Hitler bunker site, a stretch of the Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, Gendarmenmarkt and Bebelplatz. Your guide also shares nightlife and food tips at the end, which makes it a natural warm-up for an evening of festival light art.

The two experiences fit together neatly. Spend the day learning the real stories behind the buildings, then come back after dark and watch many of those same central streets glow. Looking for more ways to explore the city? Browse all of our Berlin tours.
