Nottingham Walking Tour

Welcome to Robin Hood’s hometown! Can You Handle It Tour?’s Nottingham city walking tour will be your perfect introduction to this city of lores and medieval political intrigue.

Our informative and fun guide will introduce you to the must-see sights on Nottingham.

We will hear stories about the friction between the Saxon and Norman Nottingham at the Old Market Square, and historic tidbits while visiting the terrace overlooking the Square modelled by the Nottingham School of Art.

The statue that stands proudly in Nottingham city centre just off Old Market Square, is that Robin Hood? No! That’s Brian Clough, Nottingham’s football hero. In our tour you will learn why this sportsman was so important to the city.

The core attraction of our tour is of course the Nottingham Castle. First built by William the Conqueror in 1067, Nottingham Castle is the site of the legendary conflict between the Sheriff of Nottingham and the hero outlaw Robin Hood.

The Robin Hood statue stands just outside, with his arrow nocked and aimed at the castle gate. No visit to Nottingham is complete without a photo at the statue. Statues of Little John, Friar Tuck, Alan A Dale and Will Scarlett, which are names you will know well if you’ve read the tales of Robin Hood, are also placed around here.

Among the sites we will visit are Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, one of several pubs claiming to be the oldest in England. The pub claims that it was established in 1189 AD. It houses the cursed galleon, a model ship with a fascinating legend, as well as the Pregnancy Chair.

The tour also covers the National Justice Museum (formerly the Galleries of Justice Museum and historically known as the Shire Hall and County Gaol), St Mary’s Church, Lace Market, Royal Concert Hall and Nottingham Playhouse/Albert Hall.

The tour is also available in Spanish!
